3. Memories of the Alhambra
In this sci-fi thriller that blurs the boundaries of what is possible and what is not, you’re actually transporting yourself. The CEO (Hyun Bin) flies to Granada to visit the game developer (EXO Park Chanyeol) who has created an ingenious virtual reality game based on the medieval battles of the Alhambra. The CEO ends up residing in a hostel run by the creator’s sister (Park Shin Hye), and when the creator goes missing, it’s up to the couple to find out what’s happened.
Using the game as an ingenious weapon in the episode, there’s a lot of unpredictable twists and turns as you become confused of what’s true and what’s not. Great to hide from the modern world!
4. My Love From Another Star
We won’t lie, you’re going to cry watching this supernatural romance. But you’ll be transported to a whole other place first, a world where an alien can totally be on earth for 400 years and fall in love with an actress who lives next door. Helps that the alien is played by Kim Soo Hyun, and his story is both tragic as he waits for his chance to go back home, and how he’s forced to change identities every 10 years to hide his agelessness.
Jun Ji Hyun is incredible as the female lead: funny, charismatic, and devastating, you’re going to get sucked into this otherworldly story and never want to leave.
5. Mr. Sunshine
A historical drama set in Korea in the early 1900s, it concentrates on revolutionaries battling for the liberation of Korea. The talented cast, which includes Lee Byung Hun, Kim Tae Ri, and Yoo Yeon Seok in the lead roles, has lush settings and cinematography, and superb acting.
If you’re after something to motivate you, enrage you and entertain you, that’s the drama that will whisk you further from the present times.
As friends who die and are reborn by a dark marble named ‘the abyss’, this mystical drama stars Park Bo Young and Ahn Hyo Seop. The twist is, in new bodies, each supposed to represent their spirit, they are brought back to life – unexpectedly Park Bo Young becomes a ‘plain’ girl while Ahn Hyo Seop is turned into an attractive, young male.
They embark on a search together to locate the serial murderer who killed them, and to avoid his rampage of body-changing murders. In this body-swap supernatural story, there’s enough humor to keep it light!
